Spring Break Planning + Preparing for Next Phase
Although our team is currently on spring break, we are continuing to move Oxyfloat forward through planning and design work. Right now, we are developing our Canva poster for the Maritime Aquarium presentation and refining materials for our Greenlight presentation. These visuals are helping us clarify how we communicate our project, design, and public purpose. When we return this week, we will begin experimenting with algae beads as part of our proof-of-concept development, marking the next step in testing and refining Oxyfloat.

Algae Bead Light Testing Begins
We began setting up our algae bead tests, starting with controlled light exposure experiments to understand how illumination affects oxygenation performance.

The Oxyfloat team spent the day in New York City conducting community outreach at Pier 76 and Bryant Park. We distributed informational pamphlets, engaged with hundreds of individuals, and raised awareness about hypoxia while introducing Oxyfloat as an innovative solution for improving aquatic ecosystems.
April 9, 2026
Working with Cabbage Juice Indicators
We began working on pH testing to evaluate how different pH conditions affect the success of our algae beads, helping demonstrate proof of concept for our project. We experimented using a homemade cabbage juice indicator to observe pH changes. We also continued finalizing our Greenlight poster and slideshow. We’re excited to present in about a week and a half and are actively preparing for BDC as well.

Back to Building: Spring Development & BDC Prep
After spending much of early May focused on AP exams, the team is now back to active Oxyfloat development and preparation for the Biodesign Challenge. Current work includes prototyping with PVC piping, testing waterproof sealing approaches, integrating pumps, refining circulation systems, and advancing engineering drawings. Stay tuned for more updates as we move from concept to build.
