Kelp Screening Presentation: Public Engagement & Innovation
January 29, 2026
Event Overview
Oxyfloat was invited to participate in a local community kelp screening event focused on marine ecosystems and environmental awareness. The event brought together students, educators, and community members interested in ocean health. Our goal was to share our project and introduce the issue of low oxygen levels in aquatic environments in an accessible way.
The Presentation & Pitch
During a one-minute pitch, we introduced Oxyfloat and explained how our design aims to improve oxygen levels in aquatic systems. We also set up a table display where we shared our system diagram, discussed our prototype, and answered questions. Our focus was on clearly communicating the problem of hypoxia and how our approach could contribute to potential solutions.
Community Engagement
The event provided an opportunity to engage directly with members of the community. We had conversations with attendees about water quality, local ecosystems, and the challenges of addressing hypoxia. These discussions helped us better understand how to communicate our project and highlighted the importance of making environmental issues more accessible.
Raising Awareness
Events like this play an important role in increasing awareness of environmental challenges such as low oxygen levels in aquatic ecosystems. By sharing our work and connecting with others, we are able to bring attention to these issues while continuing to develop Oxyfloat as a student-led project focused on real-world impact.
