Securing Second Place at the Biodesign Sprint Global

December 5, 2025

Details of the Competition

The Biodesign Sprint is an international design competition that brings together student teams to develop solutions to real-world environmental and social challenges. The competition emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to communicate a clear and feasible concept that integrates biology and engineering principles.

Our Research Proposal and Logic

We presented Oxyfloat as a conceptual floating system designed to address hypoxia in aquatic environments. Our focus was on developing a simple, scalable approach that could improve water circulation and support oxygen distribution. The design was inspired by natural aquatic movement and emphasized accessibility, modularity, and environmental awareness. At this stage, our work centered on early prototyping and clearly communicating the potential impact of the concept.

The Judging and Results

Our project was evaluated based on its environmental relevance, clarity of design, and overall presentation. We were awarded 2nd place internationally, receiving recognition for addressing an important issue and for clearly communicating our idea. The experience highlighted the importance of balancing innovation with realistic implementation. Developing Our Next Steps

The competition helped us better define our problem and improve how we present our ideas. Feedback emphasized the importance of clear communication, practical design considerations, and continued development through prototyping. These insights have guided our next steps as we continue refining Oxyfloat and exploring ways to strengthen its real-world application.
